Since 2017, Annapolis Arts Week has been celebrating Annapolis and Anne Arundel County’s talented and diverse local arts community. The week-long event encompasses all the wide ranging artistic creativity that has made the area a haven for art lovers with its many art galleries, performance arts studios, musicians, and all around artistic talent.
With block parties, classes and workshops, three major events/festivals, live music, art exhibits, and much more, Annapolis Arts Week is the perfect way to get a sense of all the amazing art available to visitors and locals alike.
There are two major, can’t-miss festivals happening during this year’s Annapolis Arts Week: Paint Annapolis and First Sundays Arts Festival. Each offers attendees a different experience – live music, painting, food and drinks, crafts, and live art demonstrations.
First Sunday Arts Festival
Every first Sunday of the month (May – December), from 11 am to 5 pm, the first block of West Street and Church Circle are closed to traffic and opened to hundreds of arts and crafts vendors selling all kinds of local art. Grab some food, enjoy live music, and shop for a new piece of artwork. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon with the whole family. Click here for more information.
Paint Annapolis is a week-long, juried, plein air painting competition held each year that brings plein air painters to Annapolis from around the world. The event is designed to explore in paint the special colonial architecture, marine atmosphere and overall energy of Maryland’s capital city. You’ll see dozens of artists spread across the city painting right on the street demonstrating their talents. Visit the Maryland Federation of Art online to learn more about this countywide event.
With over 20 galleries, all within a short walk from one another, it’s no wonder Annapolis was named one of the nation's Top 25 Arts Destinations in American Style Magazine's 12th Annual Arts Designation Poll. Annapolis’ galleries showcase a wide variety of artwork from pottery and glass fusing to sculpture, painting, and everything else in between. With Annapolis being such a walkable city, Arts Week is a great excuse to hit the streets and check out all the fantastic galleries in town.
Exhibits at our galleries occur throughout the year – a few of which are taking place during arts week. Visit the Annapolis Arts Week website for a full list of exhibits and events happening during the event.
Get Artistic with an Art Class or Workshop
One of the most exciting parts of having such a rich and thriving arts community in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County are the many organizations and businesses that offer classes and workshops for a wide range of art and performance disciplines. One of our partners, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, even offers mini ‘courses’ during Arts Week. Visit Annapolis Art Week’s Classes & Workshops page for more information on classes happening during the week.
Live Music throughout the Week
Aside from the many music venues in Annapolis that host performers each night, there are also a number of shows happening throughout Arts Week. First, the Annapolis Irish Festival (June 1-2) will feature three stages with traditional Celtic music and Irish rock bands playing over the two-day event. Dinner Under the Stars will also feature live street music during the popular al fresco dining event. The Annapolis Towne Centre will also be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their Summer Concert Series. Join them on June 7 for a live performance by the Dan Haas Band and enjoy a wine & beer garden, giveaways, food trucks, and more!
Love a party? Join the local community in three block parties happening across Annapolis during Arts Week: Art on the Avenue, FLOAT, Paint Annapolis Nocturne, MEGA at City Dock, and Dinner Under the Stars. Enjoy food, music, art, and great company! Visit the Annapolis Arts Week website for more information.
