ASGT presents "Light Up the Stars"

September 15, 2017

Light Up the Stars. A fundraiser for the Stage/2: Power Up! campaign September 15-24, 2017 Friday-Sunday at 8pm. TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE ON JULY 1, 2017 ASGT is thrilled to present a special cabaret performance this September that will be truly “empowering”! Directed and music directed by David Merrill and choreographed by his wife Elysia Merrill (assisted by Andrew Gordon), Light Up the Stars is an evening of music and dance crafted to inspire and delight. The show features an all-star cast of ASGT alumni who will illuminate classics of the musical theatre cannon as well as contemporary Broadway hits. Light Up the Stars is a fundraiser for the Stage/2: Power Up! campaign, which is raising funds for ASGT to upgrade our historic building from residential power to commercial three-phase power this fall. This is an essential project without which we cannot continue to run theatrical-grade lighting and sound equipment without potentially catastrophic results. The upgrade will also lay the groundwork to heat and cool the building for year-round use. Your ticket purchase for Light Up the Stars empowers ASGT to move forward with the power upgrade this fall and continue bringing theatre under the stars to downtown Annapolis for years to come. Please join us for a luminous and uplifting evening of theatre!

ASGT presents "In The Heights"

August 3, 2017

In the Heights was the first Tony Award-winning effort by Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of the Broadway sensationHamilton. It won four 2008 Tonys, including Best Musical, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. You will not want to miss this heartfelt musical about chasing your dreams and finding your home. | In the Heights tells the story of a vibrant community in New York’s largely Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights—a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams, and pressures. A place where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. When Usnavi, owner of the corner bodega, discovers that he sold a winning lottery ticket worth $96,000, everyone on the block dreams of how they would spend the small fortune and finally achieve their dreams. Unfolding over the course of three days during the summer, the show tells the universal story of the American Dream set to a Latin beat, and is a jubilant celebration of community and urban life. Its tuneful score is enlivened by the dancing rhythms of salsa, Latin pop, and rap, and its zesty choreography is like none you’ve seen on our stage before. | Performances are Thursday-Sunday, August 3-September 3, 2017 at 8:30pm. |Rated PG. Parental guidance suggested. | Single tickets available beginning April 1, 2017.
